Ace Combat 8 Emergency Sortie

Quick Answer

Play Co-Op Assault or Co-Op Warfare and check the next mission offer. Emergency Sortie randomly offers up to eight players a superweapon battle; no verified match count, schedule or method forces it to appear.

An Ace Combat 8 Emergency Sortie is a limited-time cooperative mission in ACE COMBAT ONLINE. It can appear randomly while you are playing Co-Op Assault or Co-Op Warfare, but you cannot select it directly or force a confirmed spawn. When one becomes available, up to eight players join forces against a legendary superweapon.

The important limitation is that no guaranteed trigger or official appearance rate has been established. Community reports disagree about whether wins, ranks, aircraft roles, lobby population, or repeated matches affect the result. Treat every normal online mission as another opportunity, watch for the special mission when you return from a match, and accept it while it remains available.

Read the Online mode overview for the regular playlists. If you are collecting upgrade items, keep the blueprint requirement checklist open rather than assuming a guaranteed reward.

What an Emergency Sortie Is

Emergency Sortie belongs to ACE COMBAT ONLINE, not the single-player campaign. Online aircraft, resources, and progression are separate from Campaign Mode, so owning or completing something in the campaign does not automatically prepare your online hangar.

The mode differs from the two regular online activities. Co-Op Assault places two teams of four in a PvE mission where they compete for score, while Co-Op Warfare combines two opposing teams with active air, ground, and sea NPC units. Emergency Sortie temporarily brings as many as eight pilots together against one large strategic target.

At launch, the documented Emergency Sortie targets are Chandelier, Alicorn, and Arsenal Bird. Their objectives are not interchangeable: the team must read target updates and attack the currently vulnerable components instead of treating every encounter as a simple damage race.

How to Get an Emergency Sortie

There is no menu route that lets you queue for Emergency Sortie on demand. Use this repeatable process without assuming it guarantees an appearance:

  1. Enter ACE COMBAT ONLINE and make sure you are using the online hangar rather than judging readiness from campaign progress.
  2. Play either Co-Op Assault or Co-Op Warfare. Official material identifies both as the regular modes during which special missions can occur.
  3. Complete the match and check the next mission information before immediately starting another activity or leaving the session.
  4. If an Emergency Sortie appears, join it within the displayed availability period. Its limited-time status means it should not be treated like a permanent playlist.
  5. If it does not appear, continue with normal online missions only if you still want their regular progression. There is no supported match count after which a special mission becomes certain.

This approach is deliberately simple because no hidden meter, fixed schedule, or exact probability has been confirmed. Players have reported long dry spells, several appearances close together, and very different ratios between Emergency Sorties and Scrambles. Those incompatible experiences are consistent with random availability but cannot establish the underlying formula.

Spawn claims that remain unconfirmed

ClaimWhat the evidence supports
Winning increases the chancePlayers report both appearances after lower ranks and dry spells after repeated wins. Do not treat a win streak as a trigger.
An A or S rank is requiredReports include appearances without those ranks, so a high result is not a demonstrated requirement.
It always appears after a small fixed number of matchesPlayer experiences vary too widely for a reliable match-count rule.
A particular aircraft role selects the missionThe aircraft-role theory is anecdotal and has not been confirmed. Choose for usefulness, not supposed matchmaking manipulation.
Switching to a busy lobby forces itSome players observed an appearance after switching, but that sequence does not prove the switch caused it.
Emergency Sorties follow a scheduleOfficial material describes random, limited-time occurrence rather than a published timetable.

Do not spend resources or abandon a suitable aircraft solely to test one of these theories. A lobby change may be reasonable if matchmaking itself is failing or the population is too low to form a group, but it is not a supported spawn guarantee.

Preparing Before the Mission Appears

Because the target is unknown until the special mission is offered, preparation should emphasize flexibility. Keep at least one online aircraft that you can control comfortably against both exposed components and airborne threats. The available evidence does not identify one universally best plane, special weapon, or upgrade package for every Emergency Sortie.

Use these practical priorities:

  • Favor a loadout you can aim consistently while maneuvering around a large structure. Small vulnerable parts may matter more than general damage.
  • Preserve the ability to engage aircraft or UAVs. Chandelier and Alicorn can introduce aerial interference while the main objective continues.
  • Check ammunition during phase transitions. Firing into shielding, a closed structure, or an invulnerable barrier wastes time and ordnance.
  • Use the radar and target labels to distinguish required components from optional defenses.
  • Stay alive and near the objective. A theoretically stronger setup does not help if repeated crashes remove your attack time.

These are preparation principles, not guaranteed completion conditions. The team still has to react to the specific superweapon and the mission’s current instructions.

Eight-Player Team Priorities

Eight pilots concentrating on the wrong target can lose more time than a smaller group following the objective. When matchmaking provides no coordinated voice plan, use visible mission events as a shared language.

First, attack the newly marked required component. Second, divert enough attention to immediate defensive objectives such as incoming missiles, hostile aircraft, UAVs, or jamming equipment. Third, return to the superweapon as soon as its vulnerable section becomes available.

Avoid having everyone chase the same minor target. If several pilots are already attacking one cooling unit, ballast tank, or group of aircraft, choose another marked objective. When a shield or hatch blocks damage, stop firing and prepare for the mechanic that restores the opening. This division of labor is advice based on the documented phase structure; it does not guarantee success with an uncoordinated group.

Chandelier Emergency Sortie Walkthrough

Chandelier has two connected objectives: prevent Stauros missiles from destroying the allied city and disable the railgun. The efficient route is therefore not pure focus fire on the installation. The group must protect the city while dismantling Chandelier’s cooling system and exploiting brief access to the barrel core.

Phase 1: External cooling units and missile defense

Spread around the installation and attack the marked external cooling units. At the same time, watch for Stauros missile launches. A launched missile is an active defensive objective, not background spectacle; pilots must intercept it before it reaches the city.

Do not assume the first set of destroyed cooling units ends the phase. Mission analysis can reveal additional units after the initial targets are removed. Follow the updated markers rather than continuing to fire at an old location.

Phase 2: Open barrel and vulnerable core

Once the cooling system is disabled, Chandelier cannot keep the main gun at operating temperature. It opens the barrel for emergency cooling, exposing the barrel core. This is the primary damage window, so pilots who were handling aircraft or missiles should shift back to the core when immediate threats are controlled.

The open barrel also prevents the weapon from firing during that interval. Use the opportunity aggressively, but do not mistake one damage window for a permanent state.

Phase 3: Backup cooling and the final opening

Chandelier can activate backup cooling units and close the barrel hatch. When that happens, stop wasting attacks against the protected core. Destroy the newly marked backup cooling units to force another emergency-cooling cycle and reopen the barrel.

Stauros launches can continue while the team works through this sequence. Intercept missiles entering their firing process, clear necessary aerial threats, and then concentrate on the exposed core. The sortie ends successfully when the barrel core is destroyed, not merely when the visible external cooling units disappear.

Alicorn Emergency Sortie Walkthrough

Alicorn alternates between exposed surface objectives, submerged intervals, railgun threats, electronic interference, and a protected final target. The team’s first job is to prevent the submarine from repeatedly escaping below the surface.

Phase 1: Destroy the four ballast tanks

Attack the four marked ballast tanks whenever Alicorn is surfaced. Destroying all four prevents it from submerging again. If it dives before the task is finished, do not fire blindly into the water. Deal with the UAVs and remain ready to resume attacks as soon as it resurfaces.

The secondary railguns project firing paths that can be tracked on radar. Move clear of those lines while maintaining an approach that gives you another pass over the ballast tanks. Survival and accurate component damage are more useful than remaining on a dangerous straight line.

Phase 2: Rail cannon base, jamming, and UAV defense

After the ballast tanks are gone, shift to the base of Alicorn’s main rail cannon, where vulnerable components are exposed. The target can launch aircraft and activate ECM, which slows lock-on. When a jamming device is marked, removing it helps restore the team’s ability to attack efficiently.

Mini-UAVs can also create an electromagnetic barrier. Attacks against the barrier are ineffective, so do not drain ammunition into it. Handle the supporting threat and watch for the barrier to deactivate before resuming fire on the main objective.

Phase 3: Exploit openings and destroy the core

Keep tracking the active target marker as defenses change. Optional weapons such as AA guns, VLS units, and CIWS may be removed during the fight, but destroying every secondary system is not a substitute for damaging the required core. Clear only what blocks the team’s safe access or consumes too much attack time.

When the barrier drops, converge on the exposed objective and sustain accurate attacks. If it returns, break off instead of firing into protection. Alicorn is defeated after the core is destroyed and critical damage reaches its mainframe.

Arsenal Bird Emergency Sortie Approach

Arsenal Bird is a confirmed Emergency Sortie target, but a complete phase-by-phase route has not been confirmed. Do not import mechanics or target orders from another Ace Combat title. Follow the live briefing, attack only currently valid targets, and respond to shields, support units, or objective updates as the mission presents them.

Common Failure Points

  • Grinding for a promised trigger: no supported number of wins, ranks, or matches guarantees the sortie.
  • Leaving before checking the next offer: the mission is limited-time and cannot be selected later from a permanent list.
  • Using campaign progression as a readiness check: ACE COMBAT ONLINE has its own aircraft acquisition and save data.
  • Ignoring defensive objectives: Stauros missiles in Chandelier and the railgun threat in Alicorn continue while players attack components.
  • Firing during protected states: a closed Chandelier barrel or Alicorn’s active UAV barrier turns aggression into wasted ammunition.
  • Focusing only on minor defenses: removing every gun or aircraft may consume the window needed to destroy the required objective.
  • Treating advice as certainty: a sensible loadout and good target discipline improve the attempt, but they do not guarantee that matchmaking, team coordination, or mission timing will cooperate.

Quick Sortie Checklist

Before each regular online match, confirm that your aircraft is usable against both structural targets and airborne interference. After the match, check for a special mission. If Emergency Sortie appears, join promptly, read the briefing, divide attention between the boss and immediate threats, and change targets whenever the objective markers or protection state changes. Above all, save your strongest attack windows for vulnerable components rather than trying to overpower an active defensive mechanic.
